Sanity-Saving Skills Every Busy Person Needs

Thumb through your dictionary to the word “busy,” and you’ll find a tragic photo of your weary-looking face.

Work, home, family, bills, committees you were suckered into, that broken doohickey you’ve been meaning to fix for a year – there’s no escaping the constant call of responsibilities on your shoulders.  It’s time to fight back the mayhem and carve out some downtime for yourself with an arsenal of easy-to-learn skills that you can start using today. Is Shopping at Aldi Really That Great?

Is Shopping at Aldi Really That Great

For a while now, I’ve heard great things about Aldi — how savings-minded moms are saving lots of money by shopping at this unconventional store.

It’s not a supermarket, and it’s not a club store.  I learned that Aldi contained mostly store brand products and only four or five aisles, making it much smaller than a standard supermarket.  Still, people raved about it.

I decided I needed to check it out for myself.

Okay, I wasn’t technically by myself.  One Saturday, I told my toddler that we were going somewhere new called Aldi.  He took in my enthusiasm somewhat suspiciously but dutifully retrieved his sneakers for me and sat happily in the car for the 10-mile drive.  On the way, I even taught him the word “Aldi” — something I now regret, since he spent the next week intermittently asking to go to Aldi. With more than 4500 stores nationwide, it’s likely you’ve got a Rite Aid in your neighborhood.

The world of Rite Aid is in a state of flux.  In the last couple of years, Rite Aid has eliminated some of its popular savings programs, introduced a new rewards program, and made plans to be acquired by mega-retailer Walgreens.  (How coupon policies will change at that point is anyone’s guess.)

Maximizing your Rite Aid savings means having the latest information on the chain’s policies and best practices.  And winning at the Drugstore Game with Rite Aid requires a whole different playbook from the one you’d use at competitors like Walgreens.

Here’s what you need to know. [Read more…]

My Obsession with Storage Bins (and Why You’ll Love Them Too)

Some women obsess over shoes.  I love storage bins.

I don’t know how many we have, but we’ve got those suckers everywhere.  They’re in the basement, the garage, the play area, and our closets.

They’re a beautiful thing, but bins can provide only the illusion of organization if you’re not careful.  After all, you accomplish nothing if you lob piles of garbage into bins, slap the lids on, and hide them away until you have your own personal landfill.  Used as an organizing tool instead of a dumping ground, however, sturdy bins give you clean-looking, element-proof storage of the items that matter to you.
